Limoncello–the perfect dessert drink

Although I’d never heard of this drink until recently, Limoncello is a lemon liqueur. It’s a dessert drink that’s supposed to aid in digestion.

The recipe for homemade Limoncello follows:

750 ml bottle of vodka
6 lemons
1 cup sugar

Peel the lemons and place them in a glass jar, avoiding the white part. Add vodka. Close the jar and let sit for 2 weeks, shaking daily. When the peels lose color, it’s ready.

Use the remainder of the lemons to make lemonade. 🙂

Make simple syrup by mixing 1 cup sugar with 1 cup water. Heat in saucepan until sugar dissolves. Add the syrup to the limoncello base. Use a funnel to pour the limoncello into clean, sealable bottles and store in freezer. Pour in small cocktail glasses and serve.

  3. I had my first taste of Lemoncello while on vacation in Greece. We visited the island of Mykonos and stopped by a jeweler. The shop owner was very talkative and when he closed his shop he came and found my daughter and me at the restaurant he’d recommended for dinner. He bought us this dessert drink after dinner. It was amazing. I loved it. Thanks for reminding me of this pleasant memory.
