I just returned from New York City by train. I figured the ride would be an adventure, a new experience, and I could meet new people. The ride from Georgia to New York City was cold and long! People bundled in blankets most of the way. Many slept most of the way.
I planned to go to the dining car and treat myself.
The dining car ran out of food and closed early. No problem, the lounge car had snacks and food. Ah, no, they also ran of food , so I grabbed water bottles and Pepsi cans, since they would close at midnight, and a bag of chips. They would go well with the cheese slices and Easter candy I bought at bargain prices.
We had a 2 hour delay because a freight train ahead of us had hit a man walking on the tracks. That was sad, of course. When breakfast time came I went to the dining car for what I hoped would be an elegant experience. Hmmm. Not exactly. It was noting like in the movies. It was even colder, but my food was good.
Sliders at the hotel were the best! I wolfed them down like a starving dog! But no fries? What was that all about? And the waiter wanted to charge more for less food! (A topic for another blog!)
My burger at Juniors in NYC. Excellent! And there were fries and onion rings!
My burger on the train was tasty, and it came with potoato chips.
My experience was basically good. Next time I’ll be better prepared!
Look for announcements of my release date for Cheerleader Dad, a parent trap kind of romantic comedy.

Because booking airfare can be expensive, especially at the last minute, I decided to take a train to New York City for the Romance Writers of America’s 2015 national conference. Here are a few lines about my ride and burgers in NYC.

I’d always thought a train journey would be fun. Guess not, huh? I’m still very envious that you got to go to RWA. In truth, I’m glad you had fun. Linda

Thanks, Linda! RWA was fun for me. I love seeing folks I can only see once a year. The train ride would be fun with a friend.

The National Conference was great. The three hour tour of the city by airport shuttle, not so great. All in all, it was a great trip.
