If you’re ever undecided on where to spend your vacation, Hilton Head has it all! It offers everything for a family, or for a couple looking for a romantic getaway, or just a bunch of friends wanting to get together. There are numerous hotels, or you could rent a condo or a home in one of the many gated communities known as plantations.
Bike paths are everywhere. You can take a leisurely ride beneath the live oaks past lagoons where you might see an alligator, a great blue heron, or an anhinga with its wings spread to dry. There are beautifully manicured golf courses, long expanses of beach, any type of restaurant you can think of, horseback riding, tennis, and for the kids there’s also miniature golf and kid’s concerts.
Also hang-gliding and zip-lining. Did I mention shopping? Oh, boy, look out! My friends and I did real damage to our credit cards the last time they were visiting.
South Beach in Sea Pines is the home of the famous Salty Dog restaurant and T-shirt shop. Harbor Town has the marina, lighthouse, restaurants – and did I mention shopping? You can rent jet skis, kayaks, and catamarans. You can go on a guided fishing excursion or a dolphin watch ride.
Hilton Head is only about an hour from Savannah and Beaufort, two other great places to visit. And it’s a straight shot off beautiful I-95 so you can get here from anywhere. We even have our own little airport. Or arrive on your own boat on the Intercoastal Waterway.
I’ve always loved the ocean and still can’t believe I’m fortunate enough to be living within a few minutes walk to the beach.
