Mary Is Busy. Life Is Good!

I’m sneaking time to write this while students write essays for me to critique and edit.  No time wasted!

. I’ve tutored since 11 this morning and at 11:21 PM I’m still working. The crazy thing is that I haven’t worn glasses since my cataract surgery Monday! For the first time in 30 + years I don’t have to wear glasses to see my alarm clock in the mornings. I don’t even need glasses to check the time or messages on my cell phone.  DADGUM AWESOME!

Last week I dusted off a short story and self-pubbed it. Many Christmas stories are all about cheer and Christmas Spirit! This one is about survival and starting over. One year I decided to write about a woman whose husband was abusive. Like most abused women she hid the extent of his abuse. He never hit the kids or his wife, but once she left him and followed through on her threat of divorce, he had no power to control her. There was no need to keep up appearances, so he attempted to rape her and make her the submissive woman she was not so long ago..

It didn’t work because she fought him and had him arrested.  Her son has been off at college and is due to come home for Christmas Break, or, as some modern folks say, Winter Break. When the story begins she is in the throes of a nightmare, reliving the moments of his attack.
