Today is a fun holiday because it’s Red Rose Day!
Considered a beautiful, romantic flower, read below for some interesting facts.
The War of the Roses, in the fifteenth century, was a battle in England over the throne. The white rose was the symbol for York, and the red rose was the symbol for Lancaster. (The house of Lancaster won that war.)
Nowadays, red roses are very popular flowers for Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day,
In French and Portugese, French, and Spanish, rose is the word for red.
Interesting sidenote: The phrase sub rosa, means secrecy. This phrase came from a practice in ancient Rome of leaving a rose outside a door during a private meeting. The rose indicated that those people in the room shouldn’t want to be disturbed.
So, treat yourself or a special loved one today with a single red rose, or a beautiful bouquet.

Sunflowers! They are such a happy flower! I love sunflowers. I think it comes from a older neighbor who lived on the corner, her whole front yard was filled with sunflowers! And I do mean her whole front yard. It looked like someone just threw the seed and wherever the landed is where they grew. I would go down and stand outside her fence and just look at those big, beautiful, Happy flowers. I always said hello. My Mom would have had my head. She never spoke, never smiled, nothing! But, since that very first day, when I saw those big, beautiful flowerd, I have loved them.

I love all flowers and I grow a lot in the garden. I used to grow roses. Loved them. I still do, though now my roses have to come from the florist.

I miss lilacs. When we lived in NY, our lilac tree would bloom each May, Nancy. In the south, I don’t see lilac trees. 😦
